According to Campbell County Sanitation Director Bill Rutherford, “Most citizens will utilize these three compactors and be able to pull up, throw their garbage away and then cut to the right, to go right back onto Towe String Road.” There are arrows to mark the route and show the correct way to go.

JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Upgrades at the county convenience center on Towe String Road have changed the traffic flow slightly, as well as the layout of sanitation bins with the addition of trash compactors. A scale house is also being built.

When driving through the main gates, visitors will see to the right three trash compactors along a one-way road.  According to Campbell County Sanitation Director Bill Rutherford, “Most citizens will utilize these three compactors and be able to pull up, throw their garbage away and then cut to the right, to go right back onto Towe String Road.” There are arrows to mark the route and show the correct way to go. “The flow of traffic should be more convenient for folks. We don’t want people using those compactors going back to the left and crossing in front of the scales. Safety for the public is of utmost importance and this will help with that,” Rutherford said. The recycling location remains the same. There is a single compactor sitting in the middle by itself. Citizens can dump their garbage at this compactor before looping around to the Recycling area.

The new pavement also means no mud on your shoes, your car or truck stays clean and the dust is non-existent.

For bulky items such as furniture, citizens are to drive up to the top of the wall where a 40 foot open top box is located. The used oil container is also located here. The brush dump location remains the same and is located all the way at the top. Once the scale house is completed, commercial transactions and tickets will be taken care of there. Upgrades should be completed by mid-summer, according to officials. Rutherford said he wanted to thank several county commissioners for their work and support on these sanitation station upgrades, especially Ralph Davis and Rusty Orick.  He also wants to thank commissioners “Goat” Baird, Zach Marlow, Scott Stanfield, Robert Higginbotham and commissioner chairman Johnny Bruce, as well as the county finance department for its work on “spearheading these projects.”

“They all worked hard together on this to make it happen and to make it better for the citizens,” Rutherford said. He also extended “appreciation and gratitude” to the citizens of Campbell County for their patience while these upgrades take place. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 06/14/22- 6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
