LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- As temperatures rise in the 90s this week, TVA is asking consumers to use less power.

Yesterday afternoon, the LaFollette Utilities Board was contacted by TVA with the request that consumers use less electricity this week. Peak usage hours are often between 2 pm and 5 pm.

Tips for staying cool and using less electricity include:

  • Unplug electronics when not in use.
  • Set the thermostat to 75 to 78 degrees or higher if possible.
  • Use major appliances early in the morning or late at night.
  • Keep blinds and curtains closed on the sunny side of your home.
  • Use ceiling and floor fans to keep air moving in your home.
  • Use energy-efficient light bulbs.
  • Eliminate all non-essential use of electricity, such as decorative indoor and outdoor lighting used for hallways, walkways, and home patios.
  • Businesses should minimize lighting and turn off all office equipment that is not in use of necessary.
