Mr. Ray E. Ayers, age 80, of LaFollette passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022.  He was a member of Fincastle Church of God and was formerly employed as a Custodian with the Campbell County School System, retiring in 2003.  Ray was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a Medic.  He enjoyed attending Church, being outdoors, and sitting on the porch listening to the birds sing.  Preceded in death by Mother, Pernie Ayers, and Aunt, Gladys Baird.

Survivors:  Wife, Joyce Chapman Ayers; Sisters, Janet Thornton and husband, Darryl, Judy Baird and Brenda Baird; Sisters-in-Law, Naomi Robbins, Ruth Lower, Faye Wimberly, Geraldine Bourff and husband, M.C., Darlene Rains, Anna Rains, Charlotte Miller, and Marie Morris and husband, Don; Brothers-in-Law, David Chapman, Silas Chapman and wife, Linda, and Everette Chapman and wife, Margaret; Special Friend, John Hendren.  Several Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.  The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff and Nurses of Avalon Hospice and especially, Nurse Jamie Partin.

Funeral Services Friday, August 5, 2022, 8:00 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Dent officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday before funeral services.  Friends and family will meet Saturday, August 6, 2022, 9:30 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Powell Valley Cemetery & Memorial Gardens for graveside services and interment.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard.  Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Ray E. Ayers.
