School just opened, and this intersection is probably going to be crazy between 7:30am and 8:00am for a while. Sinkholes can be a bugger that only get bigger,” said WLAF viewer Chuck Welch in a response to the original WLAF sinkhole story.

You can see the outline of the sinkhole that was discovered on Wednesday.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – For those heading toward Jacksboro or La Follette who regularly come off Towe String Road via the Citizens Bank stop light at the four lane, you may want to re-think your travel route. The Towe String Road left turn lanes at the four lane went from two lanes to one lane on Wednesday afternoon after a sinkhole developed. That lane shutdown will also affect La Follette bound travelers.

Jacksboro and La Follette bound drivers coming off Towe String Road are going to be dealing with slowdowns after one of the two turn lanes was closed Wednesday because of a developing sink hole.

Public Works Director Casey Boshears says there is a large sink hole forming in that lane. He adds that you can still turn left from the other lane. “We’re formulating a game plan to replace the box culvert that collapsed under that left lane, and it’s going to be a few more days before we can make the necessary repairs,” said Boshears.

It’ll be a tight traffic pattern at peak times while one turn lane is closed while the sinkhole is repaired.

”TDOT met with us on Thursday and told us that this was ours (the City’s) to repair,” said Boshears. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/11/2022-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON-UPDATED – 08/12/2022-6AM))
