The two occupants were flown to a Knoxville hospital via med choppers.

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – “He never braked. He just veered off up through the grass and hit the bridge,” said a man traveling on I-75 right behind a Honda CRV that wrecked this afternoon. The car rammed into the Jerry Cross Memorial Bridge just before 1:30pm Wednesday.

Described as a couple in their 70s, a man, driving, and a female, passenger, were injured and soon flown out by medical helicopters.

Debris from the car bearing Georgia license plates was thrown onto the bridge and all through the grassy area. The car left the road and traveled in the grassy area between the interstate lanes and the exit ramp.

The two med choppers had just made it onto the landing zone.

Both med choppers landed on the interstate as traffic was blocked off on the north bound side at the Exit 134 (Caryville) ramp.

Multiple agencies responded including Caryville Fire and Police, Jacksboro Fire, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Campbell County EMS and EMA along with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/24/2022-6AM)
