LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – There’ll be many items to vote on at 5:30 pm for members of the La Follette City Council.

The day’s meeting begins with a public hearing at 5:30pm. That’s when citizens are allowed time to comment on the final reading of two ordinances. Those are Ordinance 2022-11- Ordinance amending Title 8 Chapter 2 of Alcoholic Beverages and Ordinance 2022-12- Ordinance amending personnel policy regarding personal relationships.

The city is a vote away from having a section of Cherry Street stabilized as a result of the flood of 2019. The council is expected to approve a bid of $372,850 to Shotcrete Contractors, Incorporated, for that project. The relocating of $200,000 in capital outlay funds is up for approval. Those funds are for the replacement of a collapsing box culvert that sits under the road where Towe String Road intersects with the four lane (Hwy 25W-State Route 9).

La Follette Fire Capt. Keith Fraley is expected to be voted in as the next assistant fire chief. Fraley will replace veteran firefighter Eddie Hatmaker who retired last month after a distinguished career.

One promotion and three fulltime hires within the police department are on deck for a vote. Sgt. Homer Herrell is expected to be promoted to lieutenant while Raymond Surber, Jesse Ferguson and Shane Tielman are up for approval to become full-time patrol officers.

Dillion Longmire is up for a full-time promotion. Longmire is on the agenda to be promoted to full-time sanitation laborer.

Food truck rallies could be coming to Downtown La Follette. A vote will be on the table Tuesday on whether or not to allow food trucks to hold a weekly rally on Wednesday evenings starting Sept. 14. The rallies would take place in the parking lot behind the police station.

At the Aug. 29 workshop, Dale Akins and Mark McKinney spoke with the council about the rally calling it a “culinary adventure.” Akins said that typically the rally consists of six to eight trucks all featuring different foods. The duo does all of the marketing and organizing for the event. Adkins said they would like to set up on Wednesday night from 4 pm-7 pm during the weeks of Sept. 14 -Oct. 5, then again in May. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/06/2022-6AM)
