LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) — Sew Mates, a group of quilters who collaborate weekly, won “Best of Quilts” and a $100 prize for their quilt entry, “Purple Rain.” The quilt features a multi-colored array of jewel-toned fabric in a star pattern.

“The entries in this show demonstrate that the tradition of top-notch quilting in eastern Tennessee is thriving,” said experienced quilt show judge Shari Pierce of Benton, Ky, after evaluating 47 show entries. She used a standard quilt show scoring rubric to judge each quilt for visual impact, design and construction. Volunteers then tabulated the scores to determine the winning entries.

Judging took place at The Quilt Patch inside Woodson’s Mall in LaFollette. “Our community is home to a large and vibrant array of sewing enthusiasts many who participate in skill building and service-oriented sewing groups based from our place of business,” said Marie King, manager of The Quilt Patch. “We were thrilled to host the judging location and, even more than that, to serve as the place where so many of these quilters found their inspiration.”

All quilt show entries will be on display Sept. 24 from 10 am to 5 pm inside the Cove Lake State Park Recreation Pavilion adjacent to Rickard Ridge Restaurant. Attendees of the show are invited to participate in a silent auction for two top-quality quilts donated by the Laff-a-Lotte Guild and Sew Mates. Auctions will be donated to Ukrainian war refugees and for children’s charity projects.
