JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – What are you up against if you’re cited for not having the load secured on a truck or trailer? The fine is $500 plus court costs plus 40 hours of community service. “It’s close to a thousand dollars by the time it’s all said and done,” said Campbell County Litter Control Director Glennis Monday.

Monday is hosting a free tarp give-a-way on Friday from 2pm until 4pm at the Towe String Road Convenience Center. That’s while the supply lasts.

The tarp law has been on the books in Tennessee since 1984, but Monday says that the law is about to become more strictly enforced.

“A citation can be issued for an unsecured load of any material being hauled on a truck or trailer that can blow off or fall off onto the roadways,” said Monday.

There will be a tarp give-a-way on the north side on Friday, October 21, from 2pm to 4pm, at the Oswego Convenience Center at Newcomb. The free tarps will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis while there is a supply. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/14/2022-6AM)
