Paul Ernest Cox, age 81, passed away October 27th, 2022. Paul was born in Pioneer, Tennessee June 29th, 1941 as the fourth of four siblings. He went to elementary school in the area and graduated from Wynn High School in 1959. He went on to attend and graduate from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He became a schoolteacher for a period of time, then he gained employment at Martin Marietta at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he worked for 32 years. During this time, he also became pastor of the White Oak Church of God and served for 51 years.

Paul loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, spending time with family, boating, and going on four wheeling trail rides. His favorite place to be, was attending church each week or being at the family farm in the woods or in a turkey blind preparing his Sunday sermon.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest B. Cox, and his mother Ruth McCullah Cox, and his sister Hazel Cox Kidd.

Paul is survived by his wife, Susan Cox, his daughter, Robin Smith and husband Brad, son Chris Cox and wife Debbie, son Allan Trippensee and wife Patsy, son Bobby Trippensee, and son Ryan Trippensee and wife Erin.

Paul also leaves behind grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, Jane Roberts, Wesley Smith, Cody Cox, Devin Cox, Kara Ingram, Christopher Demkowski, Preston Thacker, Megan Woodson, Tyler Trippensee, Caroline Trippensee, and Mallory Trippensee; sister Jean Cox Thomason, sister Julia Cox Ausmus, and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday October 30, 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the LaFollette Church of God. Funeral service will follow at 4 PM with Dr. Darrel Bewley, Rev. Lonnie Lyke, and Rev. Warren Marlow officiating. The family will meet on Monday October 31, 2022 at 11 AM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home to go in funeral procession to Powell Valley Cemetery for a 12 PM interment. Pallbearers are Cody Cox, Tyler Trippensee, Dustin Woodson, Preston Thacker, Josh Bruce, David Owens, and Wesley Smith.

  1. so sorry for your loss i went to church where he was pastor and never forgot what a gentle loving pastor he was rest in peace our loss is heavens gain praying for the family
