LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a local organization that builds beds for children who do not have a bed, holds its last bed build day of the fading warm weather season on Saturday at the parking lot of Woodson Mall at the Food City Center, the Jacksboro side. Tomorrow morning’s weather is expected to partly sunny with temperatures in the 60s.

“You don’t need any tools or any experience; just a desire to help,” said Bill Thompson, president of the local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Thompson said the number of beds they’ll build depends on how many people come out to help. At the last bed build in September, 70 volunteers arrived and built 47 beds in an event that was held in memory of the late Smiley Miller, longtime community leader and educator.

The event begins at 10am and runs until noon, 1pm, adds Thompson. He goes on to say that this is the last bed build of the year before the weather gets so bad that we can’t be outside. For more information, call 407.678.2638 or visit the website

Thompson, left, said “no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”

Another way to help in Saturday’s bed build event is to donate new twin size bedding, bed in a bag sets, pillows and other accessories. Thompson said they are in desperate need for new pillows, printed twin sheet sets, comforters and the bed in a bag sets.  Related story. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/04/2022-6AM)
