Cougar Coach Ryan Hutson holds his team’s trophy high as the Cougars gather after their championship game.

CLINTON, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – This past Saturday, it was the VFL North champion Campbell Cougars taking on the VFL South champion Cumberland Gap Panthers for the Volunteer Football League crown.

Campbell won the toss and deferred to the second half so the Panthers took the ball and went to work. The Panthers moved the ball very well and scored first and converted the extra point to go ahead 7 – 0.

He scores! Cougar Carson Booth hits pay dirt on Saturday.

The Cougars got the ball and answered with a score of their own as, #14 Carson Booth took it in from about the three yard line.  The extra point failed, and the Panthers led the Cougars 7-6.

The Panthers scored again to make the score 14 – 6, and that score held with the Panthers winning the VFL crown.  The Cougars finished second wrapping up a very good year.  I know the coaches, parents and other family members and fans, such as myself, are very proud of what these young men have accomplished.

This Cougar breaks away from the pack.

Congrats to the Panthers of Cumberland Gap for the big win in a very good ball game.

I want to mention the coaches of our Cougars and congratulate them for a job well done.  They are Ryan Hutson, Tony Begley, Johnathan Cupp, Blake McCullah, Troy Nash and Eric Spangler. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/07/2022-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF DAVID GRAHAM)
