LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Children’s Center held an open house yesterday evening.

According to center representatives, the intent behind the event was to educate newly elected county officials to the services and programs offered by the children’s center in the community.

Children’s Center CEO Tracie Davis provided tours of the facility and explained the active role the center plays in helping children going through the court system and in between foster homes or in state custody.

The Campbell County Children’s Center also houses Cary’s Cave, which is an apartment like setting which can sleep multiple children, allowing siblings to stay together as they navigate the court system. Davis said she wanted to highlight that Campbell County has had this important resource in place since 2016. The center also stores hygiene items, clothing, shoes and more on site so they are ready to help children of all ages that come through their doors needing assistance.

“Sometimes getting a clean new outfit and having a safe place to sleep for the night can make all the difference to these kids after everything they have been through,” Davis said.

State Rep. Dennis Powers attended the open house event and commended the Children’s Center on the importance of its existence in Campbell County.

“I’m really impressed with what they do for our children. They have a great board, a great director and they have worked hard to provide a facility that is desperately needed. It would not be here were it not for the generosity of the community and the hard work by the board to raise the money. I’m proud of what they do and how they take care of our children until a better place to go can be found,” Powers said.

State Rep. Dennis Powers has a new best friend. Orville serves as the facility dog for the Childrens Center.

The Campbell County Children’s Center is always in need of new clothing for kids of all ages, including underclothing, pajamas and socks. The center posts a wishlist on Facebook and its website of items needed. For more information about donating to the Campbell County Children’s Center, check them out on Facebook or visit its website.
