Wlaf1450KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night, Campbell Campbell played a very good Carter team to a T; a technical foul that turned the game. With Carter ahead 58-55, that technical was whistled during a Cougar timeout with 35-seconds left and was quickly followed by a second technical foul, the first on Devon Jones and the latter on the Campbell bench. Given that, a great high school basketball game was quickly dashed, and Campbell fans will never know if their Cougars could have pulled off the win at Williams Gym. Campbell trailed by three when the drama unfolded. Carter made all four technical free throws and went on to win 65 to 58.
All was not lost. If anything, the Cougars come away with reassurance that they are the good basketball team they knew they were when their record sat at 4 & 0 two Mondays ago. Last Monday at Karns, Carter whipped the Beavers by 19, the same Karns team that defeated the Cougars in convincing fashion on Friday.
A quick turnaround may just be what the 4 & 5 Cougars need, and they’ll have that tonight when Scott visits Brown Gym. The Cougars and Highlanders tip off at 7:30pm.
Devon Jones was the game’s top point man with 21 Adama Sanogo had a dozen in a reserve role while David Adkins and John Long each had seven. Luke Browning, Gavin Cox and Hyrum Hinckley had three a piece. Eight Cougars saw action with all eight posting points.
On Tuesday, the Cougars 4 & 5 (0 & 2) and Lady Cougars 4 & 4 (1 & 1) host Scott in non-district games.
