It’s a busy week for the Campbell Cougars as they open play at Oneida on Tuesday morning. WLAF will have all the live coverage.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was an uphill climb from the git-go for the Campbell Cougars on Friday night on Brown Court. Hardin Valley Academy jumped out to a 6-0 lead, pushed it out 9-2 and the climb was underway. Watch the game HERE on demand from WLAF.

Hardin Valley gained a lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it. Finding itself down 18-8 after the opening quarter, Campbell pretty much played even with HVA until the final horn. HVA outscored the Cougars 16-15 in the second and 17-16 in the third with Campbell posting a 19-18 final quarter.

Campbell carved what was once a 16 point lead down to single-digits, nine, with 1:56 left in the third quarter. Midway into the fourth quarter, the Cougars were within six points at 58-52. However, HVA scored 11 of the last 17 points to claim the 69-58 victory.

Hardin Valley played without its stellar post player Jack Smith who was out for a reason not told to WLAF when asked. Smith, who had 25 points in the November win at Hardin Valley, sat in uniform on the bench Friday night. Though Smith did play in HVA’s Thursday night win at Karns.

The Cougars started slowly. Leading scorer Devin Jones did not score a field goal until after halftime while second leading scorer and top rebounder John Long was suffering from illness all night.

Despite the fact that close shot after close shot just wouldn’t fall, there was no quit in the Cougars. Jones put up 17 points while Adama Sanogo tallied a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Long accounted for 12 points and several rebounds. Gavin Cox had a big three finishing with five points as four came from Jordan Day. David Adkins and Luke Browning scored two points a piece and Hyrum Hinckley, who was saddled with fouls, scored a point.

The 5 & 6 Cougars play Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Oneida in the South Fork Physical Therapy Christmas Tournament. The first day’s opponent is the Maryville Christian Eagles at 11:30am. The Voice of the Cougars, Josh Parker, and Coach Don Atherton send you the live radio only broadcast over the WLAF – Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network; AM 1450, FM 100.9, WLAF-TV 12 and www.1450wlaf.com.
