LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A mother and her daughter were on their way to freezing to death just after sun up on Friday morning. A First Responder with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service just happened to be seconds away when the call came in to Central Dispatch.

“I was over at our fire station at Valley View checking the status of the building and was headed out to Victory to that station when I heard the call,” said Daniel Lawson with the CCRFS. Lawson was on the scene at the apartments on General Stiner Highway near the Frontier Store in less than two minutes.

“The mother, in her 50s, and her 30-something daughter were accidentally locked out of their apartment, couldn’t get back in and could not get in their car,” explained Lawson. The daughter already had ice forming on her face where there was some moisture, according to Lawson.

Lawson adds that the women had been outside for about 45 minutes, and he was able to get them back into their apartment and begin the warming process. First Responders with the Campbell County EMS soon arrived, continued the warming action and assessed each woman’s status.

“I’m afraid this will not be the first call we’ll have like this this weekend,” said Lawson. He goes on to say that the Lord had him in the right place at the right time.

Temperatures are not expected to go back above freezing until Tuesday afternoon. In the meantime, wind chills will be well below freezing with air temperatures in the single-digits. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/23/2022-9AM)
