LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – It was this week, 51 years ago, when the First National Bank of La Follette building was destroyed by fire and left a large part of downtown empty.
This photo shows the beginning demolition on the section of buildings left between the FNB fire in 1971 and the Goodyear Store fire in November 1976. Each building anchored their respective ends of the block; FNB east and Goodyear west.
The left side of the picture was the Goodyear Store location, and on the right of the structure was where the FNB stood. This clearing of this property was in preparation for the new FNB building which is the Community Trust Bank building we know today. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/29/2022-6AM)
