JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell’s Lady Cougars and Cougars had leads late in both their games on Tuesday at Brown Gym but just could not keep them. The Lady Cougars fell to Powell 49-44 while Powell nipped the Cougars 78-73 in double overtime. The Cougar JVs ran away from Powell in a 56-33 victory.

Powell and Campbell just played on Thursday. Though there were big changes in the meantime. Campbell lost starter and standout Devon Jones to an ankle injury and the same goes for one of Powell’s starters, Neyland Dugger.

Campbell had a 44-43 lead on Powell with less than two minutes to go, but the Lady Panthers scored the final six points to win the game 49-44. Bella Lester was tops for the Lady Cougars with 15 points followed by a dozen from Carley Kitts. Emma Brandenburg, who fouled out, finished with eight points, and Lacey Pemberton tossed in seven and Saylor Hutchison totaled two.

The Lady Cougars are 9 & 15 overall and 3 & 6 in the district with one game to go. Records for the Cougars read 7 & 13 and 0 & 9.

The Cougars and Panthers fought tooth and nail through four quarters with nothing decided as the game ended in a 58-58 tie. Campbell crossed over into its fourth overtime of the season. The Cougars held a 64-60 advantage in the first OT only to see the score knotted again as time expired. The second overtime started at 66 and ended with Powell winning 78-73.

It’s been an overtime season for Campbell. The Cougars have played a single OT game, two double overtime contests and one that went to triple OT. Campbell is 2 & 2 in the extra session match-ups.

John Long picked up his second foul of the game at the 6:06 mark of the first quarter, and except for a designed offensive set for him late in the first half, he sat out the rest of the first two quarters. Will Lester picked up the slack posting 11 first half points backing up Long. Campbell trailed 26-21 at intermission.

Long scored all of his game high 21 points after halftime time and so did Adama Sanogo as he tallied 14. David Adkins opened the game busting a big three and finished with 13 points. Gavin Owens added five while Gavin Cox had four and Luke Browning chipped in three.

Campbell hosts Oak Ridge Thursday at Brown Gym. The game wraps up the district schedule for Campbell. The JV game begins at 4:30 with the Lady Cougars playing at 6pm and the Cougars at 7:30.
