Frederick (Fred) Lee Summers, age 89, of Blowing Rock, North Carolina, formerly of La Follette, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Born on August 31, 1933, Fred worked for Armco Steel, for DP&L, and for TVA. He retired from TVA in 1988, and after retirement he enjoyed fishing, travelling and spending time with family and friends. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and served as a driver to transport crippled children to the Shriner’s Hospital.

Fred served his country as a US Marine, enlisting in 1951. He fought in the Korean War, receiving several medals and was honorably discharged in 1961.

Fred was a proud Tennessee Vol fan; he attended many games and served as an usher at Neyland Stadium for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Summers, and his wife Mary Bolton Summers. Fred is survived by his sisters Harriet Bowling, Wanda Shirah, Betty Weber, Joyce Hyde, Linda Shockley, his son, Bryan Summers and wife Donna, Mary’s daughters Debra and husband Larry Bostic, Deanna and husband Donnie Davis, and Mary’s son Mike Bolton and wife Sandra. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ira and Lee Summers, Dustin Davis, Kim Davis Stewart, Kevin Bostic, Brittany Bostic Terry, Brandon, Shawn, and Meranda Bolton, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and special sister-in-law Judy Gregg.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church in La Follette, TN on Saturday, February 11. Receiving of friends will be from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm, and the service will follow.
