Steve Wallen, Chief of Police for La Follette, was one of the celebrity waiters at Monday’s fundraiser for Special Olympics.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Local, in conjunction with Special Olympics, hosted a “Tip a Cop” fundraiser on Monday evening. Officers and personnel from the police departments of Caryville, Jacksboro and La Follette participated along with Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies and troopers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Monday night’s celebrity waiters collected tips in the first fundraiser in nearly 20 years for Special Olympics.  The proceeds, upwards of $2,500 raised, will fund items such as athlete medals and meals which will give participants an even greater experience.  This unique partnership with local law enforcement agencies is helping fill that void.

Campbell County Sheriff’s First Line Supervisor SRO Brian Osborne and Tennessee Highway Patrol Captain Stacey Heatherly helped raise funds on Monday at The Local.

Track and field will be the first event as Special Olympics returns to Reynolds Field at Campbell High on Monday, May 8.
