LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- Yesterday afternoon the LaFollette City Council, in its monthly meeting, approved amending the original site plan from Tony and Brandon Johnson at 2537-C Jacksboro Pike. They were asking to add two additional storage buildings to the original site plan presented to the LaFollette Planning Commission on Oct. 22, 2020, to make a total of six storage buildings.

Two ordinances had a final reading. Ordinance 2023-04 pertaining to camping, loitering, panhandling within the City of LaFollette; the ordinance prohibits camping or camping activities unless in a designated area was approved. Ordinance 2023-05 pertaining to event permitting was also approved. The ordinance says any event or gathering organized and publicized on city property must obtain a permit for the event no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled event. The organizer of the event has to disclose the date, purpose and location of the event. There is not a charge for the permit.

The council approved its first event permit under the ordinance. The permit was from Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church to gather in the rear parking lot of the LaFollette Municipal Building.

Ordinance 2023-06 amending the personnel policy pertaining to bereavement leave reading had a first reading along with Ordinance 2023-07 amending Title 8 section 8-212 of alcoholic beverages. Ordinance 2023-07 states park entrances need to be 500 ft from an establishment that sells or serves beer. The ordinance previously read park boundary lines must be 500 ft from the establishment. Resolution 2023-06 to apply for the 2023 Public Parks and Recreation Grant Cycle (LPRF Grant) was approved.

The winner of the most improved property for the month of April was Joe Hake on E. Chestnut St.

Mayor Cliff Jennings read a proclamation declaring April as Clean Up Fix Up Month in the City of LaFollette. There will be extra pick-ups for trash, brush, and junk throughout the month.

The police department had two items approved at the meeting; promoting Briana Tiller to a full-time dispatcher at a salary of $29,130 effective April 15 and the Body Cam Policy for the police department.

The public works department has three items approved beginning with accepting the bid for CSX crossing paving at Gibson and Brantley Lane from Rogers Group for $123,079. Next was approval for soliciting bids for street paving. Streets included in the bid are West Ave, S 13th St, Cherry St, North Ave, E. Walden St, Aspen St, W. Prospect St, N. 15th St, N. 21st St, N. 27th St, W. Walden St, 17th St, W. Avenue, Ivey Dale, Oak Street, S. Massachusetts St, Technology Drive, Hilltop Drive, S. 14th St, S. 16th St, Country Club Rd, S. 12th St, E. Hill Street, Pleasant Ridge Rd, E. Virginia Ave, and S. 6th St.

Promoting Cole Hembree to a full-time sanitation worker at a salary of $28,601.04 effective April 15 was approved.

LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust announced the Dogwood Trail opening would be at 10 am on April 13.
