LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A warm, sunny day in the lower 80s made for hot work for the “B” Shift of the La Follette Fire Department as firefighters battled a large fire just off Loop Road Wednesday afternoon. “We called in off duty firefighters to help. These are tough conditions,” said LFD Chief Jimmy Pack.

UPDATE at 5:50PM – Two firefighters were overcome with heat exhaustion. “Our first responders started IVs on both of them, and the Campbell County EMS transported them on to the La Follette Medical Center for further evaluation,” said Pack.

This unit was positioned between the fire and the new construction home.
Fire spread to behind the new construction home as the firefighter points to another area of fire as seen below.
A neighbor keeps on eye on this patch of fire until firefighters can get to it.

Thick black smoke could be seen for miles coming from the fire that completely destroyed two large sheds behind a home that sits on a hill where King Lane and McNeely Drive intersect. Neighbors said they heard a loud boom, and their windows shook prompting them to look outside.

This is the back side of the sheds that were burning.

Just before 4pm the call came into 911. La Follette Fire and Police along with the Campbell County EMS and LUB responded.

This LUB utility pole also caught fire. “We’ve lost this transformer looks like only a few folks will be without power until we can get it replaced,” said Wes Caldwell with LUB. At one count, six customers were without power.

Two firefighters were treated by first responders on the scene.

The thick black smoke could be seen for miles.

Though the two sheds were a total loss, the home that sits in front of the sheds and a new construction home on the other side of the sheds were saved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/19/2023-4:45PM)
