JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Jacksboro has a retirement on the horizon. Last night at the regular monthly meeting of the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Mayor Shayne Greene announced that the Town Recorder Emma Caldwell will be retiring in the coming months. Greene told the board that the town’s librarian Dan Gearing is interested in the job. No action was taken on the matter.

Two appointments were approved at the meeting, Aldermen Jimmy Snodgrass was appointed vice mayor and Aldermen Greg Cross was appointed to the planning commission.

The board approved the purchase of a brush truck from CMI Equipment with a price tag of $213,000.

The police department had several items to discuss Thursday night. Chief of Police Daniel Smith requested permission to have the air conditioning fixed on the police department’s Dodge Durango. He then requested permission to have the radar equipment recertified but was unsure of the exact cost. Smith also sought permission to purchase a case of ammunition for training at a cost of $165, all items were approved. The board approved paying Shilah Riggs $15.50/hr for six months. In final police business, the board accepted the resignation of Police Officer Franklin Ayers.

Ordinance No. 127 updating building codes had a first reading. The board approved a contract to audit accounts from Mitchell, Emert and Hill, CPA.

In fire department business, the board accepted the resignation of firefighter Shayne Siedner and approved the hiring of Dillon Leach as a firemen at $13/hr as needed. The board approved its NARCAN policy and procedures for the fire department. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/05/2023-6AM)
