LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Severe thunderstorms hit Campbell County over about a two hour span of time from 1am through 3am Monday. Damage was scattered and so were power outages. Several trees fell across the area as power was also knocked out to several hundred LUB customers.
A few trees fell across the county from near Norris Lake all the way to Rarity Mountain and much the same for electrical outages from Speedwell to Fincastle to Jacksboro and Caryville.
Trees over power lines were reported on Highway 25W north of La Follette at the Jellico Highway Church of God and on Rarity Mountain Road. Central Dispatch noted trees were also down on Cedar Creek Road and Towe String Road near Rogers Group. A tree fell across South 13th Street in La Follette at 5am as a crew with La Follette Public Works was called out.
The last of the watches and warnings expired at 4am. A severe thunderstorm watch was posted from 10:20pm Sunday through 4am Monday while a severe thunderstorm warning ran from 1:09am until 2:56am Monday.
Weather improves through the day as rain moves out by 8am and cloudy skies gradually give way to mostly sunny skies. Expect a breezy day with highs in the mid-80s. A mainly rain-free stretch of days and nights runs through Wednesday. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/26/2023-4AM)
