UPDATE (10:45AM)- Traffic patterns are slowing returning to normal as crews clear I-75. As of 10:45am, TDOT is reporting the lanes are nearly clear.

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – One person died Thursday night in a wreck on I-75 here in Campbell County. As a result, officials expect major slowdowns and back ups on the interstate and auxiliary roads for the next several hours.

A southbound big rig and a mini-van wrecked at 8:30pm sending the truck off the interstate at Mile Marker 135, a mile north of Caryville Exit 134. The truck then flipped as it left the roadway on the right side, according to officials. Debris was scattered down onto Bruce Gap Road and Old Highway 63 at the Red Ash Bridge that spans I-75.

Mark Nagi with TDOT reports that this wreck involved three commercial vehicles. “This is expected to be a long term closure on I-75 at Miler Marker 135 in Campbell County (on the southbound side),” said Nagi.

As of 3:30am, northbound traffic was moving with both lanes open while southbound travelers creep along with one open lane. The right lane and right shoulder remain closed on the southbound side.

Stinking Creek Road, Exit 144, also suffered back ups with an 18-wheeler and a box truck both partially off the road. The report of a semi-truck halfway off the road on Old 63 at the Red Ash Bridge was also called in to Central Dispatch.

At the height of the traffic jam, a woman in a car stuck in traffic suffered chest pains. It took some doing, but a Campbell County EMS Unit was able to work its way through the traffic to the patient at Mile Marker 156, the Rarity Mountain Exit. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/14/2023-4AM)
