The H-C on the sign stood for Houston Concentrate.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – This is a look back at the original Piedmont Service Station at the corner of West Central Avenue and North 5th Street. The station sat on the corner facing downtown.

If you look closely, you can see the Economy Chevrolet building on the left side. This was before the lower building where Sweat’s Towing is today was built. That building was built in 1947.

On the right side, you can see part of North 5th Street where the bend is going toward the old radio station. Out of the frame, to the right, is the Piedmont Hotel.

The image shows the gas station was a Sinclair Gasoline dealer. Later, the station name would change and gas brands. It would sell Texaco, and before the building was razed, it would be a Gulf Station. Today, this is part of the Steve Hurst Law Office, a building that started as a gas station. 1. On these Throwback Thursdays, maybe expand to a then-and-now photo format. I go to google maps street view to get that now, but a photo of the location from the same spot – or close to it – would be cool.
