LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tennova Medical Group Director of Operations Michael Johnson spoke at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon at the LaFollette Methodist Church on Tuesday.

Johnson is from South Carolina and is an Army Veteran who served eight years in the military as a Field Artillery Officer, deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He spoke some about his time in the Army as a Platoon Leader and later a Company Commander, completing a total of 1800 missions overseas.

“When I got back from Afghanistan, I had to figure out what to do with my life. I knew a couple of guys who were health care administrators. It seemed interesting and impactful to a community so I went for it,” Johnson said.

He started his career in health care in South Carolina, before moving to Knoxville in 2017 to work over a hospital medical program.

Michael Johnson said his military training and leadership skills translated well into the health-care field.

“I’m excited to be in this position. This area has a good base of primary care physicians and we’re going to grow that,” Johnson said.

He also said Tennova Medical Group looked to grow the number of medical specialists in the community in the future. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/26/2023-6AM)
