LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A welfare check call about two people passed out in a vehicle at a gasoline station came in to La Follette Police Dispatch on Sunday afternoon around 3:15. LaFollette Police Officer Anthony Mahar responded to Jacksboro Pike to investigate.
When the officer arrived to the Shell gas station at 2202 Jacksboro Pike, he found a 2001 white Infinity QX4 with Daniella Faith Hawkins in the driver’s seat, passed out with the car still running. Officer Mahar looked in the vehicle and saw that Hawkins had a blue rubber band and a syringe in her lap. The passenger in the vehicle was also passed out with a syringe in his lap, according to Mahar.
Mahar knocked on the passenger window and was able to wake the passenger. Based on the report from the LaFollette Police Department, when the man saw Mahar, he stuck his hands in his pocket. Officer Mahar told him to show him his hand, and he kept it in his pocket. The officer opened the door and pulled the passenger out of the SUV. He then asked Hawkins, the driver, to get out of the vehicle. Hawkins allegedly told Mahar that she was seven months pregnant. A check of her license revealed they were suspended with one prior charge, and the vehicle did not have insurance.
Hawkins performed field sobriety tests on which she performed poorly. After the sobriety tests, Mahar told Hawkins that he was going to search and asked her if there was anything he needed to know about. Hawkins allegedly told him only syringes. While searching the vehicle, Mahar found a plastic container that had a brown powder substance in it under the driver seat, a black and red digital scale with a crystal substance on it next to the center console. He also found baggies; one had a white crystal/powder substance in it.
Hawkins, 26, 349 Ridenour Lane, Jacksboro was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), possession of schedule I controlled substance, possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on revoked/suspended (2nd), and violation of TN financial law.
