John “Monk” Michael Chapman, age 72 of Rocky Top, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born on May 16, 1951 to the late JT Chapman and Nancy Hoskins in Rocky Top. Monk enjoyed being out on Norris Lake and watching UT football. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Roy Chapman.

He is survived by: daughter, Missy Chapman; grandchildren, Jessie Summie, and Emily Chapman; siblings, JT Chapman, Jr., Treva Phillips and husband Jim Phillips; several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the Leach Family Funeral Home and Cremation on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 5-7pm with the funeral service to follow at 7pm. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 2pm at Clinch River Baptist Church Cemetery.
