ROCKY TOP, TN (WLAF) – A La Follette grandmother and her granddaughter perished in a two vehicle wreck on Thursday morning on I-75 in Anderson County.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the 2020 Nissan Versa being driven by 25-year- old Caitlyn Branam was struck head on by an SUV. Branam’s passenger was her grandmother, 67-year -old Donna Morris.

Behind the wheel of a 2015 Toyota RAV4 was Stephen Lee Watts, 54. Watts was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Mile Marker 128, the south Rocky Top Exit, the THP report said. Branam was headed south.

The Toyota was traveling in the center lane and struck the Nissan head on. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest on the roadway.

Branam and Morris died while Watts was injured.

Watts is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness and two counts of vehicular homicide by impairment, according to the THP. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/01/2023-7:30PM)

  1. This was such a horrible and shocking waste of two beautiful souls who were loved by their community so very much. It is so very hard to hold back the bitter words that our hearts are screaming.
