LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The LaFollette Utility Board (LUB) held its monthly workshop and meeting on Monday evening at its offices on North Tennessee Avenue, with roofing bids and a Driver Training matching grant making up the agenda.

The board reviewed roofing bids for the replacement of the roof on the main LUB building

It’s been over 30 years since it’s had a roof put on it, and is starting to show some roofing issues, according to LUB General Manager Kenny Baird.

Bids that came in were from Genesis Roofing at $292,000 with the high bid and Dixie Roofing at $242,550 as the low bid. A third company, KH Commercial Roofing, put in a bid of $174,526, but this did not have everything included, and so that company retracted its bid.

LUB board members voted on two roofing bids Monday evening.

The board voted to go with the low bid of Dixie Roofing upon LUB General Manager Kenny Baird’s recommendation.

LUB General Manager Kenny Baird announced that the Environmental Protection Agency’s visit to the water and waste water plant resulted in a very good score, a 99.

The utility board also approved a resolution to apply for the Public Entity Partners (PEP) Driver Training Matching grant.

According to Baird, it is for a matching grant of up $2,500. Also approved was the application for a PEP Property Conservation Matching grant

In other business, Baird reported to the board that the Utility had received a favorable score from the recent Environmental Protection Agency’s visit to the water and waste water plant.

“The EPA, every so many years, comes out and tests things at the water and waste water department. We got a 99 percent rating, which is good, a very, very good score,” Baird said.

He also reported that the board will hear the auditors presentation at next month’s meeting on Monday, October 30th. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/26/2023-6AM)
