NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Earlier this fall, State Rep. Dennis Powers was nominated by Aaron Bradley at the East TN Area Agency on Aging and Disability (AAAD) for the 2023 East TN Elected Official Aging Champion Award. Powers specifically referenced the bill that was passed a few years ago that allows banks and credit unions to delay transactions if they believe the transaction to be fraudulent.

Also mentioned was the representatives support of legislation to increase criminal penalties for those who perpetrate crimes against older adults, and the most recent item Powers referenced was his bill to create a TBI Call Center specifically designed to respond to suspicious activity from banks and credit unions in real time to prevent financial exploitation.

“It was my pleasure to inform Representative Powers that he was selected as the winner for the 2023 East TN Elected Official Aging Champion Award presented by the Tennessee Federation for the Aging (TFA) Conference,” said Keita Cole, TFA Award Committee Chair.

Last month, Powers was presented the award during the TFA Awards Luncheon.  The awards luncheon was held at the Park Vista Hotel at Gatlinburg.

“Thank you, Representative Powers for your innovative work in serving older adults,” said Cole. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/21/2023-6AM)
