Tough second half for Campbell allows South Doyle to sweep Cougars in season series

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) Your Campbell County Cougars, coming off a 67-38 defeat to Anderson County, were looking to bounce back against the South Doyle Cherokees. The Kees’ defeated the Orange-and-Blue back on November 30th in South Knoxville by a score of 56-38. 

A strong first half for Campbell, mostly fueled by Gavin Cox’s 15 points, propelled the Cougars to a 33-32 lead at the mid-game break.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, the second half would belong to South Doyle. The Cherokees would outscore Campbell 45 to 31 through the remainder of the game, handing the Cougars their second loss in a row, 77-64. Campbell now falls to 6 and 11 while the Kees’ improve to 11 and 7.

Campbell’s offense was fueled mostly by Gavin Cox and Jordan Day. Cox led the Cougars in scoring with 24, and Jordan Day followed just behind with 18. Keegan Nelson tacked on five points. Logan Day scored four. Gavin Owens had three. Dylan Ford, Luke Browning, Gabe St. John, Brady Hatmaker, and Jake Hatmaker all pitched in two points apiece.

Campbell now sets its sights to the first out of eight district opponents that comprises the balance of the remainder of the regular season schedule. The Orange-and-Blue travel to Knox Central to battle the Bobcats on Tuesday. Josh Parker will have all the live coverage beginning at 6pm with the varsity Lady Cougars game over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network which consists of radio AM 1450, FM 100.9, TV Channel 1089, YouTube, Facebook, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Twitch.
