JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Thursday night the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved several agenda items relating to the police department.

First up for discussion was the opening of bids for the remodeling of the police building. 

Jacksboro received one bid from Farmer Construction in the amount of $18,700.73.

“We have the money for that from the government, and we’ve got to use it. We just got the one bid,” said Mayor Shayne Green.

The board approved the bid for renovations.

Next up was discussion on police department scheduling.

Police Chief Daniel Smith said he had worked on the schedule, and they would be working two 12-hour shifts and two eight-hour shifts.

The schedule was approved. 

Also, on the agenda was to accept the resignation of full-time police officer Joseph McCulley, which was approved.

Next up was the approval of hiring two additional officers.

Joseph Weaver was hired as a full-time police officer at Jacksboro. 

The board approved the hiring of Melissa Phillips at $18.20 an hour as a full-time officer, as well as the hiring of Joseph Weaver as a full-time officer, also at $18.20 an hour. Weaver was previously working for Jacksboro as a part-time officer.

According to Police Chief Daniel Smith, this brings the Jacksboro Police Department up to full staff with six officers.
