CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met for the regular monthly meeting with seven items on the agenda.

H.R. Douglas, vice president of the Vietnam Veterans of America, spoke to the board about putting up a large American flag across from Shoney’s. He also discussed if there is enough land for a Veterans Memorial and service flags.

Ordinance No. 2024-01 amending the zoning map by changing the zoning for property on Elkins Road from R-1 low density residential to R-2 medium density residential was approved. Ordinance No: 2024-02 amending the zoning ordinance article VII section 709.20 uses permitted on review establishing requirements for cryptocurrency mining, was approved on a first reading.

Alderwoman Vickie Heatherly made the motion to apply for the Police Academy Grant, seconded by Alderman Eric Jones. All board members present voted yes except Alderman Josh Monday who voted no.
The board approved paying an invoice for $1,967.50 to Bullock Law Firm, PLLC out of the industrial fund.
Jones made the motion to accept the firefighter equipment and training grant awarded for two sets of turn-out gear. Monday made a motion to apply for a FEMA grant for radios.

In final business for the evening was Ordinance No: 2024-03 amending the annual operating budget for fiscal year 2023-24 was approved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/14/2024-6AM)
