FOUNTAIN CITY, TN (WLAF) – For the first time since the 2018-19 season, the Lady Cougars find themselves in the district tournament championship game; and with a win, it would be Campbell’s first district tournament title since 2012.

Campbell, 23 & 5, faces 19 & 7 Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge has won 11-straight games while Campbell has won five games in a row.

To claim their spot in the championship game, the Lady Cougars defeated Central, the host team, in round one 65-47. In the semifinals, Campbell’s outscoring Karns 36-12 in the second half propelled them to a 62-45 victory against the Lady Beavers.

The opponent for Campbell, for the third time this season, is the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats. Oak Ridge, after earning the top seed only needed one victory in the tournament to advance to the title game, and that win came against Halls 72-31 in Thursday’s other semifinal match up.

It’s been tough going for the Lady Cougars against the Lady Wildcats in the regular season. Oak Ridge got the best of Campbell both on Brown Court, 66-53, and at Wildcat Arena, 61-32.

However, Campbell’s offense has flourished in the past two contests. A major factor in that is the play of Bella Lester. Against Central, Lester scored an impressive 21 points. She topped that total against Karns. In the semifinal, Bella scored 24, nineteen of those points came in the second half.

The Lady Cougars battle Oak Ridge tonight at 7:30 at Central High School.
