Fires on a day like today can get out of hand quickly in these conditions.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity will lead to an elevated fire risk this afternoon. West to northwest winds will gust between 20 and 30 mph this afternoon, which could allow fires to become uncontrolled.

There will be an elevated fire risk again on Tuesday afternoon as conditions are expected to be similar to today, but with potentially lower relative humidities. Winds on Tuesday afternoon are expected to be from the southwest, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today and Tuesday. Use caution when burning as fires may get out of hand quickly in these conditions. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/18/2024-6AM)
