LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Want to pamper your pooch while helping out a young entrepreneur who’s growing her local business? Give Claire’s Grooming Salon a call and book your pet appointment today.

She offers grooming services of all types for all shapes and sizes of dogs and dog breeds; even a de-skunk treatment and nail painting, just to name a few extras.

Claire Matherly is a busy young woman; simultaneously earning her high school diploma through home-schooling and her associate degree at Roane State Community College this coming May. Add in her dog grooming business that she started about a year ago and the fact that she’s only 17 years old and that’s pretty impressive.

“It’s been great having my own business over the past year; I’ve learned a lot from it, and I can’t believe how much it has grown, and I can’t wait to see what it becomes,” Matherly said.

She loves working with animals, which is what led her to start her own pet grooming business.

“I decided to start my business after struggling to find a job working with animals as a minor. My parents encouraged me to start, which I did through a sign out by the road. It has kept growing since then,” Matherly said.

Matherly is also an active Scout in BSA’s Troop 310, working towards earning her Eagle Scout rank this Spring. To raise money for her Eagle Scout Project for Campbell County Literacy, she used her business experience and held a community dog wash.

“It feels good to be able to use my business experience and knowledge to be able to raise funds for this project and give back to my community; something scouting has taught me a lot about,” Matherly said.
