JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- On Tuesday, Layklei Kidd, a four-year cheerleader at Campbell High signed to cheer for the University of the Cumberlands.

Her coach, and former CCHS cheer coach, Bre Price told Kidd it was exciting to see her grow as a cheerleader. She wished her the best saying she is looking forward to seeing what Kidd will accomplish at U of C.

Kidd began cheering at the age of four, and “fell in love with it.” She then went on to cheer in elementary school, middle school, and eventually at Campbell County high.

Kidd was joined by the CCHS Cheer Team as she signed.

Kidd intends to study elementary education at the Cumberlands, and possibly coach cheerleading one day as well.

Cumberland’s cheer coach, R.J Conroy, contacted Kidd, but she was actually hesitant about cheering at the college level at first. She, however, decided to visit the Cumberlands.

Kidd became enamored with the campus, environment, and people. “They were so welcoming, and it really felt like home,” Kidd said.

Kidd said she will miss her friends at CCHS, especially fellow cheerleader Sydney Lane. Her parents, as well as her cheer coaches at every level, supported her and for that is grateful.
