JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- In less than five minutes last night, Campbell County Director of Schools Jennifer Fields (photo above) was granted the contract extension she had asked for last month.

Calling the meeting to order Board of Education Chair Steve Morgan asked if there was any discussion or input on the extension.

Fields now has a contract that extends to 2027.

With the board remaining quiet on that, Morgan called for a motion.

Second District BOE Member Sharon Ridenour made the motion to extend Fields’ contract until April 12, 2027. The motion was seconded by Fourth District BOE Member Josh James.

Voting yes to extend the contract were Ridenour, James, Morgan, Third District BOE Member Randy Heatherly, Third District BOE Member Johnny Byrge and Second District BOE Member Brent Lester.

First District BOE Member Lisa Fields abstained.

First District BOE Member Jeffrey Miller was absent for medical reasons, Fourth District BOE Member Ronnie Lasley was out of town and Fifth District BOE Member Crystal Creekmore had a death in her family.

After the meeting, Fields expressed her gratitude.

“I am honored to have received an extension on my contract as the director of schools. This opportunity not only affirms the trust and confidence placed in my leadership but also reinforces our shared commitment to nurturing an environment of excellence for our students,” she said. “Together, we will continue to work toward improvements in our school system and education and empowering our students to achieve their fullest potential. Thank you to the members of the board who put their trust in me and to the entire school community for your ongoing support and collaboration.”

When Fields was initially hired, she was given a four-year contract. She later received another four-year contract. Her current contract ran through March 2025. This extension leaves her at the helm of the local school system until April 2027. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 4/5/2024- 6AM)
