LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, however, many states observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year based on best tree planting times in their area. Members of the Campbell County Lions Club are observing Arbor Day on Monday, April 22.

The very active club donated five trees, ranging from six feet to eight feet in height, to be planted around the community in conjunction with Arbor Day. “We are emphasizing Arbor Day this year as an effort to support our Lions Environmental cause. This project is to beautify our community and parks,” said Lion Virgie Selvidge.

The Arbor Day Foundation has more than one-million members and has planted more than 500-million trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities and forests throughout the world, according to Selvidge. “It’s our pleasure to try and assist our community with the benefits we get from trees like giving off oxygen that we need to breathe,” said Selvidge.
