‘We’re getting some funds to help with flooding at White Oak’- State Representative Dennis Powers

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – In his weekly “On the Way Back Home from Nashville” segment on WLAF, State Representative Dennis Powers explained that the 2024-2025 budget passed on the House floor.

“The new budget is about 55-billion dollars, a little less than what we did last year. Tax revenues are down, and we’ll work through that,” said Powers. The veteran lawmaker emphasized that “we will not be raising taxes, and we will not incur any more debt.”

There were a couple of items Powers was able to get through; helping White Oak residents and the Elder Abuse Financial bill.

Powers was able to get a budget amendment that will provide funds to some White Oak residents. “It’s really been a problem there with beavers building dams and causing a lot of flooding. We’re going to be able to help out,” said Powers.

The Elder Abuse Financial bill is the big bill Powers was able to get through the legislature. “It’s going to create a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) hot line allowing us to stop some of these scams that have happened at some of our local banks and financial institutions. We can stop those before they ever happen,” said Powers.

With the budget ready, Powers hopes to wrap up this session and this General Assembly at the end of next week. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/19/2024-6AM)
