JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was a beautiful, 70 degree evening on Thursday; perfect conditions for Cougar Baseball. The Orange-and-Blue played host to the Scott Highlanders on senior night at Brown-Archer Field. Before first pitch, the lone Cougar senior, Zach Ross, was recognized.

On the bump for Campbell was the southpaw Jake Lawson. Lawson pitched phenomenally, shutting out the Highlander offense for all seven innings.

The game was a pitchers’ duel to say the least; one that found Campbell prevailing. In the bottom of the first inning, Zach Ross walked, stole second, and later scored on a Scott error. This would be the only run the Cougars needed to pull off the victory.

An insurance run though came in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a Dylan Ford chopper and a bad throw from the Highlander defender. Cooper McQuitty crossed home plate to make the score 2-0. That is where the score would stay.

Campbell gained its second win of the year on Thursday evening, and will look for a third victory at Clinton on Friday in what is the final game of the regular season. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 4/25/2024-10PM)
