Delinquent property tax auction list as of Wed., May 8, 4:30pm

It was a packed courthouse for the 2023 delinquent property tax auction.

JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – As of Wed., May 8, 2024, 4:30pm, HERE is the updated list of property that is on the Clerk & Masters auction block Friday, May 10, 9am, at the Chancery Courtroom of the Campbell County Courthouse.  “This property will be sold at auction for delinquent property taxes,” said Dennis Potter, Campbell County Clerk & Master. It’s for the year 2021 and any previous outstanding years, according to Potter.

“We accept cash or check at the end of the sale.  Participants may also use a credit card which includes a 4% fee,” said Lisa Sanders, Deputy Clerk for the Campbell County Clerk and Masters Office.

Enhanced risk of severe storms Wednesday into Thursday

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, hail the main threats . FLOOD WATCH Wed. afternoon to Thu. morning.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Wednesday features a muggy, breezy day with more clouds than sun to go along with a high of 78. Several rounds of showers and storms are expected through Thursday morning. Some of these storms may become strong to severe this afternoon and evening with damaging winds, heavy rainfall and hail as the main threats. There is an enhanced risk of severe storms today and tonight.

LaFollette plans to recruit new police officers, city readies for veterans

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – At Tuesday afternoon’s mayor and council meeting, the LaFollette Police Department was approved to pay academy tuition for new police recruits. At last week’s workshop, Mayor Cliff Jennings suggested paying the tuition in an attempt to fill open positions within the department. He suggested that the police department look at the upcoming high school graduates.  Once trained, the officers would have to stay with the department for five years.

Thank you, LUB, for providing clean drinking water

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – La Follette Utilities Board (LUB) and partners throughout North America this week are celebrating Drinking Water Week, a decades-long tradition led by the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Taking place May 5-11 this year, Drinking Water Week is a celebration recognizing the vital role water plays in everyday life for both water professionals and the communities they serve.

“Having access to clean drinking water is vitally important for any community. The City of LaFollette’s water system began in the 1940’s and served mostly within the city limits,” said Kenny Baird, general manager of LUB. Baird adds that over the past two decades, LUB and Campbell County have partnered to bring water service to many previously unserved areas of the county.

Campbell Habitat Humanity to share in $500,000 THDA grant

Funds will help build 20 homes across Tennessee, including one in La Follette

Mary Brumitte was way beyond her required sweat equity hours.  Her straight-A-student-son, Ramsey, had already piled up a lot of his own sweat equity hours.  And in early October 2018, with warm sunshine streaming through the trees on East Fir Street, ground was broken for the family’s future Habitat Home.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Campbell County Habitat for Humanity has announced it will receive $23,250 in grant funding by Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee to build one new home in Campbell County.

The funding comes as part of a $500,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA). Campbell County Habitat for Humanity and its sister organizations throughout the state will apply the grant toward the construction of 20 new homes for qualified first-time homebuyers.

Campbell County Divorces April 30- May 3, 2024

LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- Divorces are public record. They are public because divorces have an effect on a number of legal affairs. Property ownership, debts, taxes, etc. can all be effected when a couple divorces.

JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – Jellico Elementary School received a donation of $500 from SL Industries last week. The donation will be used for the school’s STEM and CTE programs. Jellico Elementary had participated in the Dream It. Do It. Video contest hosted by Anderson County Chamber of Commerce last month and had been paired up with SL Industries to tour the company’s plant and learn about its industry. Afterwards, students compiled a video for the competition.

Campbell High Seniors earn more than $1 million in scholarships

On Tuesday night, Senior Awards Night for Campbell County High was held at LaFollette Church of God

Shelley King, a retired educator, presented the Coach Vic King Memorial Scholarship award, which went to David Cole Miller.
