CCRFS Firefighters protect fiber lines and power lines

Abandoned home burns to the ground

In addition to battling a house fire, firefighters also tended to keeping nearby critical fiber and power lines cool to avoid any damage or outages to hundreds of homes.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Disaster was averted Monday night thanks to the quick and alert actions of firefighters with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service. A house that sat up close to Long Hollow Road, just south of Long Hollow Baptist Church, was fully involved when crews arrived around 10:30.

Partin, the incumbent, were the first to introduce themselves and talk about their races for property assessor at last week’s first taping of WLAF’s 2024 Meet the Candidates Forum. The forum begins airing later in April. Clark Ford, the other candidate, chose not to participate.

Road rage trucker to represent self at trial

JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- A New Jersey truck driver indicted earlier this year in a local road rage incident wants a trial- and he plans to represent himself.

David Keith Kugel, 58, Forked River, NJ, is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. The weapon in question is a 2019 Freightliner 18- wheeler.

In court Monday, Eighth Judicial Criminal Court Judge Zach Walden asked prosecutors if an agreement had been reached in the case.

Man pushing a kid’s bike at midnight leads to arrest for drug possession

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Recently, LaFollette Police Officer Anthony Mahar was on routine patrol when he saw a man walking on a dead end street, West Elm Street, near South 5th Street, pushing a small blue and pink girls bicycle. It was around midnight on Tue., April 9, when Mahar spoke with the man identified as Christopher Alan Thompson and asked him for identification.

Campbell United’s Community Resource Fair is Saturday, 11am-2pm

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County’s Drug Coalition, Campbell United, welcomes the community to a Resource Fair scheduled for Sat., April 20, at the LaFollette Church of God from 11 am till 2 pm. Come for a fun-filled day of food and information. There will be hot dogs and popcorn, along with free gifts and door prizes at each booth. More than 33 vendors will be on site representing their organizations.

Donor flag raising ceremony is Friday at La Follette Medical Center

You are invited to honor those who gave the gift of life through organ donation

At the 2023 donor flag raising ceremony, Mark Cain, the CEO of Tennova – La Follette Medical Center, said “in these situations, you go through tragedy to get to a triumph.”

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The annual Donate Life Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness event takes place at La Follette Medical Center on Friday morning.  The hospital made history in 2022 performing its first organ transplants and hosted its first awareness ceremony in 2023.

Double lung recipient Zach Lloyd organized the first event last year shining the light on organ donations.  This event is Friday at 11am on the LMC campus at the main hospital entrance.
