PIONEER, TN (WLAF) - Summer is winding down and teachers are gearing up for another busy school year. WLAF is continuing its weekly teacher feature honoring educators across the county.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - The 2021 edition of Campbell County Cougar Football brings back a lot of experienced players on both sides of the ball. Eleventh year head coach Justin Price calls it a "good situation to have, because you can't coach experience."


Hottest day of the season, so far, is ahead this afternoon

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Thursday will likely be the hottest day of the season, so far, here in Campbell County. Temperatures in the mid to upper 90s are expected again today and Friday, mainly in the southern valley, along with heat index values between 100 and 105.

Cougars and Chattanooga Central have scrimmages today

Etter Farmer Field is where Campbell visits Chattanooga Central in the first football game of the season on Aug. 20.

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WLAF) - The Campbell County Cougars visit the Chattanooga Central Purple Pounders to open the '21 high school football season on Friday, August 20, in a 7:30pm game. The WLAF - Doyle's Tire Shop Sports Network has all the live radio and TV coverage with Les Martin and Brent Allen. In the meantime, both teams continue preseason camps.


La Follette man records 30th arrest; PI this time

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) - A call of a possibly intoxicated man in the Loop Road area of Caryville came into the 911 call center last Thursday night. Campbell County Sheriff's Deputy Preston Mullins responded to the call and allegedly found the man staggering into the roadway of Bruce Gap Road.


Sales tax holidays begin tonight at 12:01am

NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – State Sen. Ken Yager (R-Kingston) has encouraged citizens to take advantage of Tennessee’s new and traditional sales tax holidays which are set to begin at 12:01 am on Fri., July 30.  The 16th annual tax holiday on clothing, school supplies and computers will run through 11:59 pm on Sun., Aug. 1; while a new sales tax holiday on food, food ingredients, and prepared food will remain in effect through the end of the day on Thurs., Aug. 5.   The new holiday includes the qualified sales of prepared food by restaurants, food trucks, caterers and grocery stores.

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WLAF) - Reputations precede themselves for the football coaches at Campbell High and Chattanooga Central. Justin Price leads Campbell for the 11th season while Curt Jones is in his 8th season at the helm at Central (2001-2004 and 2018-present).

Driver of speeding truck with extra dark windows goes to jail

Cash and drugs seized by the Campbell County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday afternoon.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - A window tint violation led to a traffic stop, which resulted in multiple drug charges and a large seizure of cash and drugs on Tuesday. "Additionally, over the past week, our narcotics and patrol unit have worked hand-in-hand successfully removing drugs with street values ranging from hundreds of dollars of marijuana, thousands of dollars of narcotics, to tens of thousands of dollars of heroin from the streets of Campbell County," said Campbell County Sheriff Robbie Goins.


La Follette Animal Control saves 28 animals

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - City of La Follette Animal Control Officer Jami Hall cited two individuals to court yesterday after recovering 28 animals from their residence.


Section of Duff Road closed for repairs through Friday

DUFF, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) - The Campbell County Highway Department has closed a section of Duff Road from Cotula Road to Westbourne Road for road maintenance.


Animal shelter takes in 40+ animals in hoarding case

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - The county animal shelter is past capacity and is closed to intake until further notice, according to Director Patricia Siwinski.
