JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Spencer Boshears banked-in three with 25-seconds to play in regulation kept the Campbell Cougars chances for a win over arch rival Anderson alive. Bo’s trey sent the game to overtime tied at 44. Then it was John John Long’s missed three that he tipped back in to start the extra session for Campbell on its home court. Long gave the Cougars a 46 to 44 lead that they would not give up. Watch all the big plays HERE on demand.

Anderson answered with a free throw to make it 46 to 45. Then it was Nate Walden “and one.” Number 12 made a bucket, was fouled, hit the free throw with 2:10 left in OT, and the game was never the same. From there, Seth Ward, back from injury, made a lay in (51-45). Noah Burden grabbed a loose ball, was fouled and made a free toss to make it 52 to 45.

With a minute to go, Boshears knocked down two free throws (54-45) followed ten-seconds later by another Walden free throw pushing Campbell further ahead at 55 to 45.

Walden added the icing with two converted free throws at the :35 mark. Campbell scored the last 11 points of overtime, outscoring Anderson 13 to one to win it 57 to 45.

Anderson was the last team Campbell played back in December before the season was temporarily shutdown until January. On that night, the Mavericks blistered the Cougars with a 33-point win winning 86 to 53. “Early in the season, this team hoped it would win. The difference is that now, it expects to win,” said Coach Ernie Clawson after Thursday night’s game.

The Lady Cougars are 6 & 8 in all contests and sport a 5 & 4 district record. The Cougars record is 6 & 7 and in the district, it is 4 & 6.

The Lady Cougars swept the regular season series over Anderson with a 53 to 35 win on Thursday night on Brown Court. Leading the way were Cora Browning, Kayleigh Jordan and Izzy Proffitt with 11 points each while Alyssa Brown added nine followed by six from Megan Asher and five from Keely Nelson.

Nate Walden hit 6 of 7 free throws in the second-half leading Campbell with 17 points while Spencer Boshears drilled in 16 points. Bryson Horton had two big back-to-back threes for six followed by five from Noah Burden and four each from John John Long and Seth Ward. Riley Faulkner scored three and Devin Jones, who fouled out, chipped in two.
