LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- Campbell County teachers have been going above and beyond to make sure area kids continue with their education despite the challenges of the past school year.

WLAF wants to continue our weekly spotlight on educators to thank them for all they do. WLAF’S Teacher of the week is Valley View’s April Paul.

She is an instructional coach at the elementary school and has been an educator for over 14 years. She said that while she always “knew” she wanted to become a teacher, her real inspiration for her career was her father. “I wanted to follow in his footsteps and make a difference in my students’ lives. His impact extended far beyond the classroom and I witnessed first hand how the influence of a caring and compassionate teacher could change a child’s course. His love for teaching had a great impact on my decision to become a teacher,” Paul said.

Her favorite part about teaching is seeing a child read for the first time. “It is magical!” “Teaching a child to read is the greatest gift a teacher can give – once given, it can’t be altered or taken away,” Paul said. Some positives from this past year according to Paul is how the teaching community has pulled together. “Teachers and students have been faced with all sorts of challenges this year. Despite all of that, our school community has pulled together and worked collectively to provide our students with all they need to stay on track in their learning. I am very proud of all our county has done to help kids during this time of uncertainty.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 02/18/2021- 6AM)
