LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The Campbell Culture Coalition (C3) conducted outdoor classroom gardening projects with cooperation of The Cumberland Trail State Park for five Campbell County Schools, and has now been recognized by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) for their performance.

Each garden was designed specific to the school and its culture. The entire sequence of garden development events is recognized for environmental sustainability in the Tennessee State Parks “Go Green With Us” program.

Also, the Campbell Culture Coalition, a 501(C)(3c) nonprofit, partnered with the Cumberland Trail to create an outdoor gardening classroom at Cove Lake State Park in Caryville, plus another at Indian Mountain State Park in Jellico. These gardens are for the general public and are meant to provide education about healthy living. At Indian Mountain, campground guests can actually access fresh veggies and herbs.

The C3 will continue working with the Cumberland Trail expanding community gardens to other businesses and organizations throughout Campbell County. Anyone or organization interested in having an outdoor classroom or garden is urged to contact the Coalition at campbellculturecoalition@gmail.com. A garden can be customized to those interested; something unique, something to highlight a home or business. The effort is meant to showcase the citizens of Campbell County, its natural resources, food, and how the community works together.

The gardening projects were featured in The Tennessee Conservationist magazine May/June issue receiving statewide acclaim. The C3 and TDEC (parent organization of Tennessee State Parks) have worked together to produce the Louie Bluie Music & Arts Festival and expects to continue this partnership going forward.  The Coalition is also known for producing nearly 40 local youth outreach arts and culture programs.
