JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Commissioners recognized the Campbell County High School’s tennis team at Monday’s meeting with plaques and several special proclamations. See the ceremony HERE on DEMAND.

CCHS’S tennis teams are coached by Josh Parker. Parker, in blue, accepted recognition plaques from the county commission on Monday evening. First District County Commissioner Zach Marlow, (left) read the proclamation and handed out plaques. Marlow is a former Cougar Tennis player.

Commissioner Zach Marlow, began the evening by commemorating the tennis team’s accomplishments. Marlow read a proclamation recognizing the team’s members and declaring May 17, 2021 as Cougar Tennis Recognition Day and May 18, 2021 as Lady Cougar Tennis Recognition Day. Another proclamation was read declaring May 19, 2021 as Cougar Tennis District Champions and Regional Runner up Day.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars had very successful tennis seasons.

The Cougars completed the school’s first-ever undefeated regular season in any sport at 10 & 0. The team, which is coached by Josh Parker, won both the regular season and district tournament championships and finished among the final 16 teams in the state. The season also featured two wins over Oak Ridge.

Coach Parker said he was proud of the team, which consists of 33 students.

“You couldn’t ask for better kids. They did unbelievable and I’m super proud of them. They really went above and beyond,” Parker said.  

CCHS’s tennis teams packed the courtroom prior to the county commission meeting. Students were recognized with plaques for their outstanding season.

Parker told Commissioners he “appreciated their support.”

“It’s been a fun run. I’ve got the best gig around, the best kids, the best job and we’re thrilled to death.
