CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Heading north was a headache through Campbell County on I-75 in the middle of the day on Memorial Day.

It took the better part of four hours for the Tennessee Highway Patrol to sort through and clear a seven-vehicle chain reaction accident. A Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, Buick Enclave, Dodge Caravan, Chevy Impala, Hyundia Sonata and a Freightliner 18-wheeler were involved in that order based on the report from the THP.

Trooper Isaac Phillips said at least 17 people were involved in the wreck that covered both lanes of travel on the northbound side of the interstate at Mile Marker 137 in the construction zone area of an idle project that has drug on for years.

One first responder said to WLAF that three people were transported by the Campbell County EMS to the La Follette Medical Center suffering from non-life threatening injuries. The time frame spanned around 10am until close to 2pm with one account noting that traffic was backed up for more than 15 miles. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/01/2021-6AM)
